This is an open letter to you. You know who you are.
So, “comedian” Kathy Griffin is in all kinds of hot water for this:
Let’s pause for a moment of bipartisan compromise: Kathy Griffin is not now, nor has she ever been funny.
But that isn’t the issue. The issue is how outraged you ought to be. Yes, you. Those of you pitching the galloping conniption right now, those who want her jailed, or worse, you all have something in common: I never heard a goddamned peep out of you over this:
Hell, the people responsible for these acts of Constitutionally-protected free expression are probably the ones screeching loudest about Griffin.
Renegade right-winger Ted Nugent recently went on a vicious onstage rant in which he threatened the lives of Democratic presidential candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Decked out in full-on camouflage hunting gear, Nugent wielded two machine guns while raging, “Obama, he’s a piece of shit. I told him to suck on my machine gun. Hey Hillary,” he continued. “You might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless bitch.”
“We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November,” Nugent said of the Obama administration.
He also included a cryptic pronouncement: “If Barack Obama becomes the next president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year.”
Damn shame that last one didn’t come true, isn’t it?
I guess what I’m saying is Griffin may have been right and she may have been wrong, but you – again, you know who you are – you aren’t entitled to an opinion until you can cultivate a sense of morality that goes beyond I hate niggers and bitches “economic anxiety.”
In the meantime, I’m looking at you. We all are. And you’re cordially invited to shut the fuck up.
