Winter Olympic scoring silliness: Sam way overcomplicates things

Fearless leader Sam Smith earlier today launched an extended rant about subjective scoring in Ski Jumping and Moguls skiing. While he’s certainly right, he’s also overworking the problem. All you really need is a basic formula.

It goes like this. Where K = the complexity of the scoring, L = the legitimacy of the sport and ∝ stands for “is inversely proportional to”:

K ∝ L

There. That ought to do it. If there’s a complicated formula that includes style points, K goes up and L goes down. If K is a basic function of who jumped farthest or got there fastest, L is higher.

Jesus is coming, and he’s riding goofy.
