Education

Well, what did you think was going to happen?

Former coach of the year fired from Christian school for out-of-wedlock pregnancy
By Cameron Smith | Prep Rally – 3 hours ago

In an incredibly bizarre situation that appears headed for a legal challenge, a Dallas-area volleyball coach and science teacher was fired by the Christian school at which she worked for becoming pregnant before being married.

OK, I am sorry any young woman is out of a job without insurance. But who did she think she was working for? I am a little tired of people who work for Christian schools, or Goldman Sachs, or who choose to live in places where there are hurricanes or tornadoes or racially-based killings being surprised when bad stuff happens. What was she teaching them? Chastity, I bet.

At some point, you need to realize that if you sleep with dogs you will wake up with fleas. These religious academies (Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc) are a pox on education and those who work for them are accomplices in the bad they do. Feeling pity for this coach is a bit like feeling sorry for a getaway driver who gets in a car wreck. Really?

  1. “These religious academies (Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc) are a pox on education and those who work for them are accomplices in the bad they do.”

Sigh. Fighting religious intolerance with the bigotry of an over-generalization.

  2. The Heritage Christian Academy is to be applauded for doing the right thing. The female volleyball coach did the wrong thing(pregnancy out of wedlock)and is now doing another wrong thing by hiring an atty. The Supreme Court has already ruled on stuff like this. She has no chance. My sincere and caring advice to this unfortunate young lady is to simply move on.

  3. Sigh. Jay, congratulations. It is hard to pack so many errors into so few words, including a misunderstanding of “religious intolerance,” “overgeneralization” and “bigotry.” It would take an entire post to dismantle your comment so I will let it pass except to sayI am sure you learned in school that the way to win an argument is not with attacking the writer as a bigot and misplaced nitpicking. But perhapsnot. Did you go to a religious school by chance?

Jay and John. Saying that Heritage should be applauded is ridiculous. However, they are well within their rights. This has to do with a lack of tolerance, but not a lack of religious tolerance. If the young lady was Jewish, that would be religious intolerance. As is, I seriously doubt that getting pregnant is part of her religious beliefs. Since they view their teachers as “ministers in the classroom” (note Jay: not educators but indoctrinators, hence the pox idea) it is clearly appropriate that they enforce their behavior code on those ministers.

I do find it fascinating that when a good Texas Christian girl gets slammed by fellow Texas Christians, who and what does she turn to? The federal government and laws against discrimination. Lovely irony there.
