Photography – Light Bulb

On this date in 1880 Thomas Edison received patent 223,898 for the Electric Lamp.

Vegas Baby!
Vegas Baby!

Las Vegas holds the dubious honor of being the brightest spot on the Earth at night. Sadly not enough people recognize the harm of our collective light pollution. I remember reading a piece after the 1994 Northridge earthquake – people actually had never seen stars in the sky above Los Angeles. It took a massive power outage to darken the area enough to see the night sky.

In a personal note, I had a magical parenting moment when my young son saw the Milky Way for the first time. It was glorious to watch him wonder about how we all fit in this orbit together. So, turn off the lights and go outside and look up!
