So the Senate caved into Boltin’ Joe Lieberman’s request to attack Iran at will with a bipartisan vote of 76-22. Oh, I know, it’s non-binding and not an actual declaration of war, and they amended some of the language. But you should know how these things go by now. This has given our Mickey Mouse president the political justification, however flimsy, to execute ‘Operation Bomb the Ragheads II: Git that Amadajad Feller.’ You know, the guy who had the balls to step on U.S. soil just to reveal his statesmanship and truthfulness are on the same level as our own village idiot.
Among the less than two dozen senators who voted “nay” on Lieberman-Kyl: Joe Biden (who seeks partition; a non-binding bill supporting it also passed today), Barbara Boxer, Chris Dodd, Russ Feingold, Chuck Hagel, John Kerry, Pat Leahy, Richard Lugar and Jim Webb. Very presidential people there, including two active White House candidates. Hillary of course voted aye; McCain and Obama—out campaigning—didn’t even vote. While a few senators issued statements decrying the bill, nobody filibustered, nobody ranted, nobody led an army of protesters down Pennsylvania Avenue to stop another wasteful conflict that will end thousands of lives and solve nothing.
Lieberman has lots of friends supporting his mission to act as Bush’s stool hawk, er pigeon, in the march toward war. Why, there’s the Veep; the Pentagon; the House of Representatives; wanna-be prez Newt; neocons galore; hell, all the nattering nitwits on Fox News.
Meanwhile, a GOP Jesus freak gunning for the White House thinks y’all are too stupid to understand what’s going on. It all of course boils down to revenge for those dagnab godless Eye-ranians kidnapping a couple hundred fine upstanding American citizens some 30 years ago. We will never, ever do business with those scoundrels.
What does Iran have to say for its part? A few simple questions from (supposedly) a group of Iranian educators, but they could have been asked by just about any average American with an IQ higher than a Froot Loop. Good luck getting answers.

Probably the only thing that is a worthwhile save from this mess is that Dodd is doing more and more to stake his leadership credentials–he’s already been kicking ass in dealing with abusive credit card companies and predatory lenders, and this is another good example.
Otherwise, the end times are truly upon us. We don’t have the money or manpower to launch an assault on Iran, so Bush will use nukes. Of course, it’ll be used as an excuse to extend his term of office and justify turning us into a fascist police state.
Crazy? What part of this ISN’T, I ask you?

Don’t worry, the roof isn’t going to fall in, and there will be a peaceful transfer of power when Bush leaves office.

I have no idea why Dodd isn’t taken more seriously, he’s an excellent senator and would make a fine president. Maybe it’s because he looks like an old frog.

Well, he and Hill go way back, so yeah, it’ll be nice ‘n’ tidy. His daddy and her hubby are bestest buddies.
Mike, you hit the nail on the head. I admit it — I could go for Dodd in a big way if he didn’t look like an old frog!
Also, anybody who hasn’t read Philip Giraldi’s vision of the world if we attack Iran: “What World War III May Look Like.”
